Seven HCS Students Inducted Into National Education Equity Lab Honor Society
HENRY COUNTY, GA – Seven Henry County Schools students recently inducted into the National Education Equity Lab (Ed Equity Lab) Honor Society were recognized during a virtual ceremony on Aug. 21.
Students receive the prestigious honor for outstanding achievement in college credit-bearing courses pursued at top colleges and universities nationwide, including Brown University, Cornell University, Georgetown University, Howard University, and Spelman College.
Ed Equity Lab partners with these higher education institutions, allowing students to pursue dual-credit, college-level classes at no cost.
Each year, schools choose courses from Ed Equity Lab’s catalog, with highly regarded professors delivering instruction and university teaching fellows leading weekly discussions. High school teachers also provide lessons in the areas of study.
Participating students earn widely transferable college credits and a transcript from the offering institution upon successful course completion.
Honor students perform in the top 20% of all scholars nationwide in college courses taken.
Seven HCS students, representing Stockbridge High School and Luella High School, were among 900 scholars from 61 cities and 24 states named to the National Education Equity Lab’s Spring 2024 Honor Society:
Victor Musa from Luella High School excelled in Introductory Sociology offered through Arizona State University, placing in the top 20% of scholars in this course.
“Students who are given an opportunity to learn from a prestigious university through the National Education Equity Lab should take advantage of it,” Musa said. “I have learned so much by choosing a dual enrollment college course along with my peers with the added benefit of never having to leave Luella High School’s campus.”
Six Stockbridge High School students excelled in Introduction to Cloud Computing offered through Arizona State University, led by Adnan Momin, who was the second-highest performing scholar in the nation in this course and received the salutatorian award.
Additionally, Jonathan Flores placed in the top 5%; Keishyanne Castro Burgos placed in the top 5%; Jesus Miranda-Orduna placed in the top 10%; Prajhnia Chan placed in the top 15%; and Roderick Hall placed in the top 15%.
“Congratulations to our exceptional students who consistently rise to the challenge, demonstrating not only a mastery of the material but also a relentless drive to excel in their college courses,” said Stockbridge High School Principal Dr. James Thornton. “Their performance reflects a deep commitment to learning and a remarkable ability to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.”
A total of 63 HCS students from five of the district’s 10 high schools participated in the Ed Equity Lab program through Arizona State University during the spring of 2024. Past HCS students have taken courses through Georgetown University, Howard University, and Cornell University.
“We congratulate these outstanding students and applaud their hard work that led to these exceptional outcomes,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Carl Knowlton. “Our vision is to ensure a high-quality, world-class education for every student, and this program aligns with that goal and the district’s mission, demonstrating what can happen when students are empowered with opportunities and access.”
University professors, high school teachers, students’ families, district leaders, and National Education Equity Lab board members attended the Aug. 21 virtual ceremony celebrating the students.
The National Educational Equity Lab is a nonprofit that works to bridge the gap between high school and college for talented students, where cost might serve as a barrier to their higher education goals.
