Henry County Schools More Than Doubles Inductees Into National Education Equity Lab Honor Society

HENRY COUNTY, GA – The National Education Equity Lab (Ed Equity Lab) inducted 17 Henry County Schools students representing Stockbridge High School, Luella High School, and McDonough High School into its Honor Society on March 12.

The students earned the distinction after ranking in the top 20% of more than 7,000 high school students nationwide who pursued college courses last fall. The exceptional HCS scholars were among 1,066 students from 23 states and 57 cities inducted during the virtual ceremony.

Ed Equity Lab is a nonprofit organization that seeks to bridge the gap between high school and college for academically and financially eligible students, enabling them to pursue courses at no cost.

Participating students take college credit-bearing courses in top universities such as Brown University, Cornell University, Georgetown University, Howard University, Princeton University, and Spelman College. 

Seven HCS students from Stockbridge and Luella high schools received the honor last year.

This year, 11 students from Stockbridge High, five from Luella High, and one from McDonough High were recognized for top performance in Ed Equity Lab courses.

All Stockbridge High School honorees pursued computing and poetry courses through Arizona State University and ranked as follows:

  • Junior Mariela Baltazar, Introduction to Cloud Computing, top 10%
  • Senior Dylan Brown, Introduction to Cloud Computing, top 15%
  • Sophomore Dadnery Conde-Guzman, Introduction to Cloud Computing, top 15%
  • Senior Sandi Ho, Introduction to Cloud Computing, top 10%
  • Junior Paul Moore, Introduction to Cloud Computing, top 5%
  • Junior Angel Opoku-Ware, Introduction to Cloud Computing, top 5%
  • Senior Cairo Redd, Introduction to Cloud Computing, top 10%
  • Senior Rogelio Sanchez, Introduction to Cloud Computing, top 10%
  • Senior A’aliyah Stanley, Poetry in America: The City from Whitman to Hip Hop, top 5%
  • Junior Peter Tran, Introduction to Cloud Computing, top 20%
  • Senior Morgan Williams, Poetry in America: The City from Whitman to Hip Hop, top 15%

Five Luella High School students excelled in College Algebra and Introduction to Cloud Computing at Howard University and Arizona State University, respectively, and ranked as follows:

  • Senior Alyson Bowman, College Algebra, Howard University, top 10%
  • Senior Bailey Logan, College Algebra, Howard University, top 20%
  • Junior Emaleigh Long, Introduction to Cloud Computing, Arizona State University, top 20%
  • Junior Victor Musa, Introduction to Cloud Computing, Arizona State University, top 15%
  • Junior Kennedy Cruver, Introduction to Cloud Computing, Arizona State University, top 5%, and College Algebra, Howard University, top 10%

McDonough High School senior Josephine Garcia placed in the top 5% in Poetry in America: The City from Whitman to Hip Hop at Arizona State University.

“Congratulations to these students for their exceptional performance,” said HCS Superintendent Dr. John Pace III. “Pursuing dual-credit, college-level courses requires focus and a commitment to educational excellence. We commend their teachers and counselors for helping to guide them in this proactive step toward their college, career, and life goals.”

Ed Equity Lab partners with select higher education institutions to offer classes to high school students each semester. Students earn transferable college credits and a transcript after completing courses.
