Henry County Board of Education Approves Appointment of Rod May as Principal of Ola High School
HENRY COUNTY, GA – The Henry County Board of Education approved Rod May as the new principal of Ola High School during its May 12 business meeting.
“This appointment is more than a professional milestone; it’s a homecoming,” May said. “Having previously served as an assistant principal at Ola High School for seven years, I know firsthand the pride, passion, and potential that make this school special. I’m excited to work alongside our dedicated staff, amazing students, and supportive families to continue fostering an environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and personally.”
May’s 24-year career as an educator includes roles such as graduation coach, teacher of U.S. history, Advanced Placement government, and adapted physical education, as well as football and baseball coach.
He most recently served as the instructional systems facilitator for the district’s Henry County Online Academy and has extensive experience leading the development, implementation, and monitoring of instructional frameworks.
“We are excited that Mr. May will be returning to Ola High School as its next principal,” said Assistant Superintendent Kevin Van Tone. “He has a passion for students and their academic success and will ensure OHS continues to achieve and grow at high levels. Mr. May is committed to creating a learning environment where all students can realize their potential.”
May earned a Bachelor of Science in health and physical education from the University of Georgia as well as a Master of Science in Education in integrating technology in the classroom and an Education Specialist degree in teacher leadership, both from Walden University.
“Mr. May is a passionate educator with a proven track record of leadership and dedication to student achievement,” said Superintendent Dr. John Pace III. “His prioritization of student growth and learning will inspire our students and staff and foster a positive and engaging academic environment. We are grateful for his commitment to Henry County Schools.”
May’s roots run deep in HCS. He is a graduate of the Class of 1997 at Stockbridge High School; his children attend schools in the Ola cluster; and his father worked for the district.
May will begin his tenure at Ola High School this summer as he prepares for the start of the 2025-2026 school year, which begins July 31.
