Mrs. Dana Flowers, Principal
Personal Mission Statement:
I am a woman of integrity who values faith [which includes confidence in the good intentions of people] and positive relationships in pursuit of meaningful work that sparks action through inspiration, dedication, and service. As a young child, you could ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up and my answer was always, "a teacher." I spent countless hours in my playroom teaching my stuffed animals how to read, write, and count. However, upon graduation from high school, I pursued a Business degree and have spent nearly 10 years in Healthcare Management. While I thoroughly enjoyed my time, I always felt that something was missing. In 2006, I pursued a Master's degree in Education. Since then, I have taught all core-content subjects in grades 2 - 4, and have taught grades K - 5 in Math & Reading Early Intervention Program (EIP). After being selected as the Henry County Teacher of the Year in 2016, I served our district as a facilitator in Leadership Services with a focus on teacher development and school improvement. While I learned so much during these roles, I was eager to return to school level administration and have served as an Assistant Principal at Union Grove Middle and a proud Principal of Hickory Flat Elementary. I am thrilled to now lead at East Lake Elementary. I love our Eagles!
I am truly a lifelong learner. As such, I consistently seek opportunities for professional development courses. I have obtained endorsements in Gifted Education and Teacher Leadership. I regularly read books to extend my knowledge and deepen my understanding of current educational trends. I have an Ed.S. in Instructional Technology from Kennesaw State University and will continue my pursuit of doctoral studies by the end of 2023.
I am married to my very best friend, Matt. We have two amazing kids: Madison (21) and Dylan (17). We enjoy spending time together and can frequently be found at church, on the ballfield shouting, "Let's do this, GROVE!," watching Georgia football (Go Dawgs!), playing board games, or eating Mexican food. As a family, we believe in laughing every day and being honest with each other - especially when having difficult conversations. None of us are perfect, for sure, but we love BIG and always strive to find joy in the journey!
