Captain Bess Simpson-Baugh was born in Harlem, New York in 1969, but was raised in Long Island, New York. After graduating high school in 1987, she attended College where she received her associates in Pre-Law and Bachelors in Criminal Justice. She relocated to Georgia, December 1991. She started her law enforcement career with the City of Atlanta Police Department, April 20, 1994. In July 2000, she voluntarily resigned and went to the DeKalb County School System as an SRO/K-9 Officer. On July 17, 2006, she joined the Henry County Police Department as a patrol officer. Since joining the department, she has served in various divisions and units. On December 7, 2007, she was promoted to Detective, assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division on evening watch. On September 3, 2018, she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on evening watch. In 2020, she was reassigned to the Special Operations Division FIT Unit. On January 11, 2021, she was reassigned to the Internal Affairs and Recruiting Division. On October 23, 2023, she was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Most recently, she was promoted to the rank of Captain over the School Resource Officer Division. Captain Simpson-Baugh is also proud to be a member of the Benefits Coordinator, Peer Support unit for the Police Department, as well as the Department of Family and Children Services Board. Over the span of 30 years of law enforcement career, Captain Simpson-Baugh has been committed to serving and protecting the Henry County Community.
