Celebrating HCS Day of Service: 3.13.26

In alignment with our board’s graduate profile and our current graduation requirements for the Class of 2028 and beyond, Henry County Schools will observe the Statewide Day of Service on
Friday, March 13, 2026 (Asynchronous Learning Day).

This statewide initiative is led by the 2026 Georgia Teacher of the Year Rachel Kinsaul. The Statewide Day of Service is to engage students in meaningful service-learning that strengthens community connections, promotes real-world learning, and fosters civic responsibility.

School Commitment
  • Schools are encouraged to create and/or streamline community service opportunities for students with support from student organizations, athletics, and community partners.
  • Service projects can be embedded in the existing curriculum; wherein, students can connect classroom skills and translate those skills into real-world applications.
    • Examples of service activities include campus beautification, reading to students, clearing trails at parks, volunteering at food banks, walking dogs at animal shelters, playing games with nursing home residents, working in community gardens, writing letters to servicemembers, packing hygiene kits, or organizing donation drives.
    • These activities can align with instructional standards across content areas, including healthcare, English language arts, marketing, and Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education.
More examples are provided in Appendix A of Regulation IHF-R(1).
