INTRODUCTION TO DRAFTING AND DESIGN                                                                                                    

 

PRE-REQUISITE

                None, but a strong understanding of Mathematics is essential.

 

Course Description: 

The goal of this course is to serve as an introduction to both Architectural and Engineering Drawing and Design pathways. Through projects and activities, students will become familiar with the architectural/ construction and engineering/manufacturing industries.  This course encourages the use of decision-making, productivity, communications, and problem-solving skills. Areas of instruction include safety, geometric construction, Computer-Aided Drafting, multi-view drawings, and employability skills.  Competencies for the co-curricular student organizations, SkillsUSA, are integral components.

Identification, use and care of tools and equipment

Sketching

Lettering

Alphabet of lines

Fundamentals of AutoCAD

Single-view drawings

Geometric construction

Multiview drawing

Beginning dimensioning

 

School Wide Rules and Discipline Procedures:

To ensure an optimum learning environment, please adhere to the following:

·         Students will be respectful to all adults and classmates.

·         Students will be seated in class when the bell rings.

·         Students will not display cell phones, portable electronic devices or unauthorized materials in class unless directed by a teacher to do so.

·         Students will use computers/technology appropriately at all times.

 

CLASS RULES

 

·         Follow all school rules.

·         Come to class with notebook, pencil and thumb drive.

·         Be in assigned seat before the tardy bell rings to be counted present and on time.

·         Be respectful of equipment and classmates.

·         No food or drink in the classroom.

·         Do not throw anything in the lab.

·         Report any missing or non-functioning equipment, safety problems or dangers immediately.

·         Follow directions quickly the first time they are given and begin work without delay.

·         Ask three before me.

·         Tidy up before dismissal.  Return books, supplies and equipment to proper place. 

·         Only get out of your seat after the bell rings to get materials or to see me.

 

TARDY PROCEDURE

Be inside the lab when the bell rings.  . The only time a tardy will be excused is when a legitimate note from an administrator or teacher is presented when you enter the lab.  Discipline for tardies will follow Woodland High School tardy procedures.

1st tardy - warning and student/teacher conference

2nd tardy - parent contact

3rd tardy - before/after school detention

4th tardy - referral to an assistant principal

  

CONSEQUENCES

• First offense – write up procedure begins, student - teacher conference
• Second offense – write up continues, parent - teacher communication
• Third offense – write up continues, thirty minute detention (before or after school)
• Fourth offense – referral to an administrator
• Major offenses (insubordination, fighting, etc.) will result in an automatic referral to an administrator.

 

Make-up Work Policies:

Unexcused absences will result in no grades awarded for the work given while absent.  Excused absences allow the students to make up the work in the equal amount of time they were absent.

 

School-wide Grading Requirements as follows (year-long grading):

Semester Final Average:

         Final exam or EOC/Milestone Assessment- 9^th- 12^th grade level courses- 20%

         Course Final Average- all 9^th- 12^th grade courses- 80%

Formative assessment:

         Practice (i.e., classwork/homework)- 20%

         Summative assessment:

• Quizzes/labs- 35%
• Major tests/projects- 45%

Note:*the Formative and Summative Assessments equal 100% but fall under the category of  Course Final Average which is 80% of the Course Final Average.

 

Course Final Average- Year-long Average (80%) and Final Exam/EOC Milestone (20%)

*Grades for each 9 week grading period should include a minimum of the following: 3 tests in the summative assessment/Test category, 3 labs/quizzes in Lab/Quiz category and 9 Practice grades.

 

Academic Integrity Policy:

Academic integrity is a fundamental value of quality education; therefore, Woodland High School will not tolerate any acts of cheating, plagiarism, or falsification of school work.  Should it be determined that an academic integrity violation has taken place, the school reserves the right to assign a grade of a zero and submit a disciplinary referral to the appropriate Assistant Principal.  The school also reserves the right to remove or suspend enrollment in any Advanced Placement/Honors classes as well as Academic Honor Societies.
