UGHS GAMA Club
Sponsor: Dr. Graham, Media Specialist
-
PURPOSE OF CLUB: The Georgia Association of Media Assistants (GAMA) Club is open to all students in grades 9-12. The purpose of the club is to promote citizenship and leadership skills through learning commons/library media center service and activities.
DESCRIPTION: GAMA Club members assist the Media Specialist in the multitude of tasks necessary for the efficient library function. Projects are student lead, utilizing the four C’s - create, collaborate, communicate, and critical thinking skills. Moreover, the GAMA Club is a student organization designed to give interested students hands-on experience in a library environment.
To become a member, students must fill out a registration form, pay yearly dues of $10, complete training in basic library skills, and agree to volunteer in the learning commons once a week.
The GAMA Club will elect officers at the initial club meeting the third week in August. There will also be monthly meetings as needed to discuss upcoming media center projects.
Members may volunteer in the mornings from 7:45-8:10 am, during Instructional Focus (IF) from 11:05-1:30 pm, or in the afternoon from 3:15-3:45 pm.
Members will receive training on how to run the school store, shelve materials, use the media center catalog Destiny, and navigate the UGHS media center website and databases. In addition, according to their interests and abilities, members may create displays & bulletin boards, and promote the learning commons resources with audio, video, and other media.
