Lieutenant Colonel Michael A. Brown is the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor for Headquarters Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps' 2020 Distinguished Unit (with Merit) GA-20102, Ola High School, McDonough, GA.  Colonel Brown retired from active duty as the Director of Student Operations at the Air War College (AWC), Headquarters Air University, Air Education and Training Command (AETC), Maxwell AFB, AL. In that capacity, Colonel Brown functioned as the primary advisor to the AWC Dean of Students as well as chief liaison between the AWC students, faculty, and staff. He oversaw student personnel actions including promotions, command screening boards, and assignments and provided direct, public affairs, information technology, and administrative support to 240 multi-service, federal, and international senior development education resident officers and civilians representing 46 nations world-wide.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Colonel Brown graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1979 and from South Carolina State College (B.S. Physical Ed.), Orangeburg, SC in 1984.  He entered the Air Force in 1985 through the AFROTC program at Bowling Green State University, Ohio. Colonel Brown is a graduate of Troy State University, Montgomery, AL (M.S. Adult Ed.), Squadron Officers College, Air Command and Staff College, and  Air War College, Maxwell AFB, AL.

Prior to his final assignment at Air War College, Colonel Brown led over 500 personnel in executing the largest Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) program in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). His outstanding leadership and flawless execution of MWR’s annual $30M operating budget greatly enhanced the quality of life for more than 15,000 U.S. and international military personnel and dependents in the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) community.  Colonel Brown was a Force Support Officer who held primary Education and Training, Personnel, Services, and MWR positions. His staff assignments included two tours of duty in Headquarters Air Combat Command (ACC), Langley AFB, VA, where his leadership was critical to the successful development and implementation of the Air Force’s Aerospace Expeditionary Force construct and the relocation of Air Force Special Operations Command to Cannon AFB, NM as directed by the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) legislation. Colonel Brown has commanded twice at the squadron level, leading his unit to Air Mobility Command’s “Best Large Services Squadron” honors in 2001 and the command’s nominee for the 2003 Air Force-level John L. Hennessy Award for “Best Food Service Operation.” He served as an Air Force Reserve Officer Training Course (AFROTC)  Instructor and Commandant of Cadets at Tuskegee University, AL and as a supervisor for Computer Based Instruction at Sheppard AFB, TX.  Most recently, Colonel Brown was selected by HQ AFJROTC as the  2019-2020 worldwide AFJROTC "Outstanding Officer Instructor  of the Year."

Colonel Brown is a fully qualified Joint Services Officer.

Colonel Brown is married to retired educator Cynthia C. Brown and they have three daughters: Maikel Diane, Nicolette, and Cameryn, and one granddaughter, August Diana.
