My Career:
I currently enjoy teaching the Engineering Drafting & Design pathway at the Academy for Advanced Studies. I have been at the academy since Fall of 2012. I began teaching high school Architecture and Engineering classes in 1999 at the Lamar County Center for Technical Education. I also taught at Crisp County High School from 2001-2012. Before becoming a teacher, my education and work experience was in the field of architectural and civil engineering design. I worked in the industry from 1993-1999. During these years, I had many wonderful opportunities to work on large projects, such as the Hattiesburg Convention Center, Timberton & Canbrake golf course designs as well as The Homestead, Lakeshore, Big Bay Lake and Windridge Subdivisions. I also had the opportunity to work on roadway, drainage, sewerage and bridge projects within my community. I enjoyed the constant changing work environment and it was very rewarding to see my projects come to life as they were built.
Personal Facts:
I was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and I grew up in Lamar County, which is just south of the city. I was raised to appreciate all things outdoors. I love to hike, bike, hunt, fish, camp, garden, travel to see new places and things, and pretty much anything adventurous. I have two children. My son, Allen, lives in Chickamauga, GA and works as a power generator systems diesel mechanic in Chattanooga, Tennessee. My daughter, Whitney, is attending The University of Alaska full-time as a remote campus student in Kotzebue, Alaska. I am very proud of my family and I tend to brag about them every chance I get.
I truly enjoy watching my students graduate and attend various universities to become productive engineers, architects and designers. There is no greater sense of accomplishment than seeing your influence on a student's future.
