What is the online grading metric in Edgenuity?
If you are taking your HCOA course through Edgenuity, there are three grades you will see on your dashboard each time you login. Please read the descriptions of each type of grade below and when they will be used to report your progress grades and final grades.
Relative grade (Course Final Grade): This is the grade you see when you first log into the Course Lobby. It would be the grade that a student would receive if they stopped working today and received 0% for all unscored, counted activities. This grade is essentially a harsh penalty for not completing work. As you work closer to 100% completion, the relative grade will increase to eventually match your other grading metrics as long as you get 100% done with your course. This is the grade that is posted at the end of the term/semester in Infinite Campus as your Course Final Average that will then post to your student transcript.
Actual grade (Progress Grade): This is the grade for all of the activities you have completed through today on your Course Map. This is the grade adjusted for progress if a student is behind. If you are behind pace, 'zeros' are applied to the activities you have NOT completed through today. This score doesn't assume zeros for uncompleted work that hasn't come due yet; it simply penalizes for falling behind. This is the grade that is posted at each 4.5 Week grading period in Infinite Campus for progress reports, but it is not the course final average.
Overall grade: This grade only reflects the work you've submitted thus far in Edgenuity and shows how you've done on that submitted work. It does not account for being behind and/or not finishing the course. If you only do the first activity, for example, and make a 100% but then do nothing else in the course, your Overall Grade will stay a 100%. However, this grade is NOT reported for any grading window, term, or semester. It is simply a measure of how well you are doing on completed work.
Students and parents should keep an eye on the Relative Grade in Edgenuity. This grade factoring in missing work as zeros and penalizing for being off pace will show you what you would have in the course if today were the day grades were pulled and finalized.
