What are the minimum requirements to be a substitute teacher with Henry County School District?
Posted by:Substitute Teachers must be 21 years of age. The minimum requirement is a High School Diploma or a GED. A Bachelor’s Degree or higher and is preferred. A substitute teacher with less than an associate’s degree or 90 hours of college credit is required to take and pass the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment. Substitute teaching is not a full-time job. This position is considered “on-call” as needed, with no guarantee of hours of employment. Substitute teachers are not eligible to draw unemployment wages. [Campbell v. Poythress, 216 Georgia Appeals 834 (1995)]

What is the application process?
Posted by:All applications are electronically reviewed to determine if the applicants meet the minimum requirements to be a substitute teacher. Three completed references are required and are sent electronically by the applicant. Applicants must provide the current or most recent supervisor as a reference. A complete work history is also required to be considered. Applicable documents (high school diploma/GED, GACE test results, college transcript/diploma or teaching certificate) must be uploaded to the application.

What are the next steps after applying?
Posted by:Once all references are received and documents uploaded, applications are eligible for review. If selected, the applicant will receive an offer of employment and an invitation for fingerprinting (Cost for fingerprinting is $45).

What are the training requirements?
Posted by:Selected applicants are required to pass a criminal background check as required by state law before attending the mandatory 4-hour substitute teacher training.

What are the monthly work requirements?
Posted by:The minimum requirement is the equivalent of one full day (8 hours) per calendar month or 12 full days in a school year.

When are substitute teachers paid?

If I am a former HCS employee or substitute, is it necessary to apply again?
Posted by:If you formerly worked as a substitute/employee of Henry County, and would like to return to work as a substitute, you must submit a new application. If it has been more than three months since you were active updated fingerprinting will also be required.
