Student success is fueled by passion and agency at the Academy for Advanced Studies. Henry County students who choose AAS are exercising agency over their education; they are making decisions that motivate them to excel in the classroom and the laboratory. With paired courses, instructors plan and instruct collaboratively to take advantage of the natural connections between their courses so that students begin to understand when and where they will utilize math or science in their futures.

Rigorous expectations combined with practical application enable students to demonstrate mastery of their learning. The primary focus of instruction at AAS is to ensure that students are gaining applicable experience for their postsecondary lives, whether choosing college, career, or military.

    AAS picClimate and Culture
Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) offered at the Academy for Advanced Studies comprise most of our extracurricular activities. While many activities and skills are incorporated daily into routine instruction, students can participate in some activities before or after school, including competitions. In addition to CTSOs, AAS students gain work-based learning experience with catering in the Culinary Arts department, grooming with Barks and Bubbles in the Veterinary Science program, marketing in The Alley school store, and engagement with the community at events such as the Geranium Festival.

The emphasis is placed on enriching the career-related involvements of our students

    AAS pic Extracurriculars
When you walk into the Commons at the Academy for Advanced Studies, you will notice the names and mascots for each of the 10 high schools in Henry County Schools. These signs are representative of the camaraderie that exists throughout the building. The students are attentive to their mission – the reason they chose to attend AAS. Inside these walls, the focus is on developing soft skills such as collaboration, communication, and team building. We are a community with a common purpose.

Therefore, on a given football Friday, you will see a student with a DHS jersey working side-by-side with a student wearing a UGHS jersey. The positive energy in the building is apparent from the moment you enter the doors.
