  •  Highlights

The following school highlights are just a few of the things that make Locust Grove High School an amazing place to learn and grow! These four items should allow you to see the rigorous learning, diverse experiences, and supportive culture that exists in our school. In Henry County Schools, we believe in giving every student a high quality, world-class education and we believe these highlights display our passion and commitment to do just that.

    LGHS picStudent Outcomes
LGHS is proud of our increase in graduation rate between the 2019 and 2020 cohorts from 86.1% to 87.4% during a school year in which students and teachers had to quickly adjust to new ways of learning. We are thrilled with the level of commitment from staff and students, and we feel sure this came from our TRUE BLUE dedication to believing in each other and our mission of excellence, providing opportunities to lead and serve others, keeping the community informed of our goals, and finding a path for all students to excel.

According to an LGHS parent, “With all the uncertainty of the school year, I never doubted that LGHS teachers and staff were helping my child get to the finish line of graduation. They stayed in contact with my child and me, and I am so grateful for all their hard work and dedication. I am so, so proud that my child is a graduate of Locust Grove High School!”

    LGHS picStudent Opportunities
The Capstone is an opportunity for students at LGHS to have sacred and protected time during the school day to really dive into the things that they love and are passionate about. They do this through their advisory period. Each student has a teacher adviser who serves as a point of contact and a guide through the Capstone process. The advisor also helps students make connections in the building and in the community, guides them in making academic standards connections, as well as helps students meet deadlines for the Capstone work. The LGHS Capstone process spans from 9-12 grade, starting with Freshman Focus. All freshmen have a specific 9th-grade advisory in which they conduct a service learning project as a team. This prepares them for declaring their own driving question and beginning their formal research in tenth grade, some kind of service-minded action in eleventh grade, and then a culminating portfolio defense in twelfth grade.
One of our many capstone opportunities is our studio hour for students interested in band. The LGHS Band director, Heather Miller, stated that “Studio Hour is for our high-achieving musicians that need one-on-one help preparing for auditions, ensembles, and competitions. During this time, they can obtain private lessons that cater to their needs and goals as musicians in our county, region, and state.” We believe that school should encourage students to explore and learn more about the things they love and help students connect to academics through authentic learning.

    LGHS picClimate and Culture
"This is my family, I matter here!" "You will love it here, they really work hard to make you belong." These are just two of the many quotes from former LGHS students that represent the TRUE BLUE community of LGHS. Students who call The Grove "home" are central to each and every decision made about and for learning. Building strong relationships is the driving emphasis daily and the belief that "every student must have an adult he or she connects with" is the passionate aim of the faculty and staff. The action step that is common within the learning environment is finding the person who can get through to each individual student.

Home visits, personal notes, handwritten cards mailed home, lunch celebrations for goals attained, a walk or run through the trails to recharge. The list is endless and these activities point to the creative problem-solving embraced by the faculty and staff.

    LGHS pic Extracurriculars
We have a variety of organizations at LGHS that focus on service projects. FFA and CFA Leader Academy are two examples of those. In addition, we have our Freshman Focus advisory, which does a service learning project as a team to introduce them to the Capstone process (which is also service minded). A student from Ms. Pritchett’s Freshman Focus Advisory said "We love to help and give back to the community and working together with friends on something that matters and is important makes me think in a different perspective." One of our LGHS teachers, Ms. Davidson conducts a Freshman Focus (Hands for Humanity) and she stated, “this group has been collecting toys for children during the Christmas time because they personally know someone who has been a victim of Domestic Violence; also, they recognize and acknowledge they are so blessed and, in a position, to help others.
They just imagine the faces of those children with a big smile that day when they see their presents. As their teacher, I can see the changes in them when they are working to achieve their goal." In 2020, Mrs. Davidson’s freshman focus advisory collected 150 toys for children!

    • Georgia Student Health Survey Responses
    • Literacy Proficiency Rates

The Georgia Student Health Survey is given to all k-12 students in Georgia in the spring of each school year. It is composed of a variety of questions that help our district better understand the student experience in our schools. The literacy information is calculated as the percentage of students reading on or above grade level determined by scores on the Milestones End-of-grade assessments for 9th grade Literature and American Literature. The 4-year cohort graduation rate is also displayed on this dashboard. Each of these data components can be viewed for the previous three years. For more information about these measurements, please access the Locust Grove High School website.
