Vision -Union Grove Middle School will be one of the top performing middle schools in the Atlanta metro area in both student achievement and growth indicators. We are committed to providing appropriately rigorous and engaging learning opportunities to our Wolverine students, while also affording student growth opportunities for all performance levels of Wolverine learners at Union Grove Middle School. The cornerstone of an effectively engaging and supportive learning environment hinges on connectivity with all Wolverine stakeholders along with community connections that can support and enhance the learning experience for our Middle School Wolverines. The combination of effective instruction and connectivity begins in our elementary feeder schools and extends into our high school, as we strive to ensure that all stakeholders at all levels are committed to the Wolverine Way from kindergarten to graduation, and that the short three-year time spent at UGMS is the vital mid-point of that 13 year journey. Through this intentional understanding of the vital importance of the middle school experience, we can ensure that our learners remain Wolverines for 13 years in the Union Grove family of schools.

Alex McElhannon, a 7th-grade student at UGMS during the 2020-2021 school year, recently pulled a double accomplishment, or triple accomplishment, really, after he secured a win at UGM in the Young Georgia Authors Competition, then went on to accomplish the same at the Henry County level of competition, then again at the Griffin RESA Regional level! Alex was able to go on to represent Union Grove and Henry County at the state competition. According to his mom, Jennifer, "We are so proud of Alex. He really is a bright kid, but also a kind soul. It makes us so happy to see his confidence grow with his accomplishments.

We are also grateful to everyone at UGMS for providing encouragement and great opportunities like this writing contest." Best of luck Alex, and know you've already made Union Grove proud!

For the first time in UGM history, an entire class of students was enrolled in a high school course...in 7th grade. The classroom, led by Ms. Jovina Pierre, has been in advanced and accelerated preparation for this opportunity since 4th grade in their elementary schools. When in 4th grade, students were already being exposed to 5th-grade math, and while in 5th grade, were exposed to the remaining 5th-grade and all 6th-grade math content, finally compressing all 7th and 8th-grade standards into one year as sixth-graders. Now, as a group of 12 and 13-year-old 7th graders, these students will be earning high school grades, and credits, and even taking the high school End of Course (EOC) Assessment. Although the students have been high flyers in math, the course presents its own unique challenges.

"In this course, it's something you just can't study for...we have to learn how to study," says Jada Jackson, a class member and also a member of the Lady Wolverine Volleyball Team. To be successful, like in volleyball, it requires a team effort, including help from home. "Every day, my dad helps me by encouraging me to try something new, or he learns the material and helps, too". We know our 7th-grade group, working together, will continue to make us proud both in this year and years beyond.

Union Grove is proud to have yet another successful scientist in our midst, as Naditha Wickrammage competed at the Georgia Science and Engineering Fair at the University of Georgia. In addition to locking up the 1st Place Award at the Regional Science Fair, Naditha was recognized for winning the Office of Naval Research Award and the Environmental Protection Agency Awards as a result of his efforts in the Earth and Environmental Science category.

Union Grove was likewise proud of a 1st place showing by Arushi Patel at Regional, along with 2nd place by Shreya Patel, and 3rd Place by Ally Franklin. Many thanks to the wonderful Ms. Jennifer Jones, who helped to coordinate the science fair participants within Union Grove, and best of luck to Naditha as he goes on to compete at the state level!

Union Grove Middle School’s student outcomes information can be found on this dashboard. This information includes:

    • Georgia Student Health Survey Responses
    • Literacy Proficiency Rates

The Georgia Student Health Survey is given to all k-12 students in Georgia in the spring of each school year. It is composed of a variety of questions that help our district better understand the student experience in our schools. The literacy information is calculated as the percentage of students reading on or above grade level determined by scores on the Milestones End-of-grade assessments for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade in English Language Arts. Each of these data components can be viewed for the previous three years. For more information about these measurements, please access the Union Grove Middle School website.
