    ARM picStudent Outcomes
At Ola Middle School, we make it our business to create a high-performing environment for all students. By providing rigorous and relevant instruction, students are engaged so that they will be active participants in their learning. We believe that all students can perform at or above grade level when given the opportunity. Our mission is Creating Tomorrow’s Innovators Today, and innovation must begin in the classroom. Our teachers provide rich instruction that challenges students to think critically and perform at high levels. “Instructional rigor must match the rigor of the assessment in order to raise achievement. It is imperative that we trust that our students can learn at high levels and provide them with the rigor to raise their achievement while scaffolding learning to meet the needs of every student” Donalyn Vaughn, sixth grade ELA teacher.

Through collaboration, teachers work together to design instruction that pushes students to meet and exceed the rigor of the standards. As a result, OMS has scored in the top two schools in the county in every subject on the Georgia Milestones Assessment for the past four test administration cycles, and 80% of our students scored at or above grade level in reading. In addition, our students regularly exceed their performance goals on MAP assessments, and consistently perform above the county average on Henry County Schools benchmarks in every subject.

    ARM picStudent Opportunities
At Ola, students have many chances to grow and develop their potential. Students have the opportunity to earn high school credit in several subject areas, including Algebra 1, Geometry, Physical Science, Spanish, and Comprehensive Art. “Comprehensive Art for 8th graders is an awesome opportunity for those students that wish to pursue an art-related career or their personal voice as an artist. This class gives the foundation for higher-level art courses in high school. It also puts them a year ahead, giving them more AP course options for art once they are juniors and seniors.” Catherine Park. During the 2019-2020 school year, 190 Ola Middle School students took high school honors credit courses. Our connections department gives students the opportunity to explore the various pathways that will be available to them in high school, including agricultural science, engineering, physical education, and public safety.
“Public Safety is a CTAE course that teaches our students employability skills, first aid and CPR, disaster response and support, law, and justice, the legal process, fire and EMS services, and other skills that students can use to improve their lives through service and community leadership" Mark French. Our fine arts department enhances student instruction and provides opportunities that boost self-confidence and increase student motivation. Ola boasts the largest middle school band in the county, an outstanding orchestra program, and a theatre arts program.

    OMS picClimate and Culture
At Ola Middle School, we pride ourselves in creating a culture of inclusion and family where students, faculty and staff, and all stakeholders feel like vital members of the community. “One thing I love about Ola Middle School is that I love my teachers,” Deja, a 7th-grade student. We have had a 4-star climate rating in CCRPI for the past four years. 62% of our teachers have been at OMS for more than five years, and seventeen of our teachers have been here since the opening of the school in 2006. Ola Middle School has had three Henry County teacher of the year finalists, and our media specialist was just named the Henry County schools media specialist of the year. “Ola Middle School is more like a family than a school building.

I love working at OMS because my co-workers treat me like a family member. Education is important to us at Ola Middle School, but more importantly, we are important to one another!” Jennifer Lindsey, 8th Grade Teacher and an OMS Teacher of the Year. In addition, our PTO is a supportive and active member of our school community that regularly provides support to teachers and staff by providing meals, gifts, and treats as well as paying for our student awards.

    OMS pic Extracurriculars
Extracurricular activities are a central component of education here at Ola Middle School. Our athletic department includes football, basketball, softball, track and field, cross country, wrestling, competition cheerleading, volleyball, and our exceptional student football team - the Mighty Mustangs. In addition, our 8th graders have the opportunity to participate in high school athletics, including baseball and lacrosse. “Ola Middle School sports has taught me how to persevere and how to rely on my teammates. It also taught me how to work hard in life and in sports.” Spence - 8th-grade student. Through our fine arts department, students can participate in the pep band which plays at home football games. • Georgia Student Health Survey Responses
    • Literacy Proficiency Rates

The Georgia Student Health Survey is given to all k-12 students in Georgia in the spring of each school year. It is composed of a variety of questions that help our district better understand the student experience in our schools. The literacy information is calculated as the percentage of students reading on or above grade level determined by scores on the Milestones End-of-grade assessments for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade in English Language Arts. Each of these data components can be viewed for the previous three years. For more information about these measurements, please access the Ola Middle School website.
