  •  Highlights

The following school highlights are just a few of the things that make Eagle's Landing Middle School an amazing place to learn and grow! These four items should allow you to see the rigorous learning, diverse experiences, and supportive culture that exists in our school. In Henry County Schools, we believe in giving every student a high quality, world-class education and we believe these highlights display our passion and commitment to do just that.

    ELMS picStudent Outcomes
ELMS saw an increase on the most recent College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI) of 9.5 points from 2018 to 2019, fueled by the increase in content area performance, a 9.95% increase in the number of students growing at the same rate or better than their peers in mathematics, and the number of students in subgroups making vast improvements and closing the gap in their achievement rates. ELMS outperformed both the district and the state in "closing the gaps" according to CCRPI. Our MAP data shows steady growth in the areas of math and ELA for the past several years. For the past 5 years, the math team has placed in the top three schools in our division at the Griffin-RESA math competition, taking 1st place for two of those years. This is due in part to having one of the largest accelerated middle school math programs in the district. Our Academic Team consistently places in the top five in their competitions each year. We are home to the current GA State Spelling Bee champion, Ananya Augustine, who placed 2nd in the state in 2020.

We consistently have students placed at both the district and state levels for Science Fair and National History Day. We have even had students compete at the national level for the Science Fair. We prepare our students for high school and beyond; an ELMS alumni, who graduated in 2020 from ELHS was accepted to FIVE Ivy League schools (Harvard, Brown, UPenn, Cornell, and Dartmouth) as well as Emory University.

    ELMS picStudent Opportunities
There are multiple opportunities for students to get involved here at ELMS. We have student ambassadors, Young Men of Distinction, Girls with Pearls, Girls Empowering Movement (GEM), Technology Club, Student News Team, Environmental Science Club, FCCLA, FFA, and Beta Club. Every year we have students compete and place in Literacy Days. We offer six opportunities for students to earn high school credits while in middle school. We offer Algebra I, Geometry, High School Physical Science, Spanish I, Comprehensive Art I, and ROTC. Through the Counseling office, we promote Kindness Week, Red Ribbon Week, a collaboration with The Council on Alcohol and Drugs, and the chance to learn about opportunities at the Academy for Advanced Studies.

We also expose our students to College and Career Readiness Activities, such as Career Day and the YouScience program. 8th grade participates in high school transition activities and receives Dual Enrollment information. We also partner with the high school to offer a mentoring program with some of our students.

    ELMS picClimate and Culture
Eagle’s Landing Middle provides a multi-tiered approach to prevention, such as peer mentoring and behavior support groups while using disciplinary data and principles of behavior analysis to develop school-wide, targeted, and individualized interventions and support to improve the school climate for all students. The mission of the Eagle’s Landing Middle PBIS team is to foster and promote a safe and positive school environment that enhances student learning by teaching and recognizing positive behavior, increasing student connectivity, and establishing an effective system of social and emotional learning support. The vision of the Eagle’s Landing Middle PBIS team is to strengthen our partnerships with the community, our families, and students as we motivate and inspire excellence for our future leaders. The Eagle’s Landing Middle PBIS program inspires us to promote a positive learning experience and culture through our SOAR behavior matrix, access to the PBIS room, the Eagle Ambassador Program, restorative learning practices, family wellness, service-learning, student and teacher acknowledgments, and our Principal’s book study.

Our school psychologist emails the “Mindfulness” thought of the day, so that the adults in the building can restore, reflect and rejuvenate the essence of their “Why” I became an educator? Our program inspires college and career readiness through our “Ceiling of Possibilities” and positive character through our “Pillars of Success” located in our commons area. Eagle’s Landing Middle recently received the district’s PBIS connectivity award for outstanding PBIS practices and connectivity with students and the community.

    ELMS pic Extracurriculars
ELMS enjoys a long tradition of excellence in athletics. Teams have won county championships in basketball, cheer, softball, softball, track & field, and volleyball. We offer a variety of sports for our students to build their athleticism and skills as they consider secondary opportunities. Our sports programs stress the importance of integrity, honor, and sportsmanship. Middle school Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education courses are vital to introduce essential skills and concepts to students as they discover their talents and interests, and explore career possibilities, and a potential high school career pathway. We offer Family and Consumer Sciences, Engineering and Technology, and Agriculture. Spanish is also offered to students for high school credit. The modern language curriculum will develop students’ skills in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural competence. These courses provide opportunities to develop the knowledge skills, attitudes, and behaviors that students need to become responsible citizens and leaders while managing the challenges of living and working in a diverse global society. Fine Arts (Performing and Visual) is offered to all students at ELMS. Band, Chorus, and Orchestra offer beginning (6th), Intermediate (7th), and Advanced (8th) level courses. Students participate in honor ensembles and perform throughout the school year.

Art is offered to students in grades 6, 7, and 8 as well. In addition, advanced learners may register for Comprehensive Art, which offers high school credit. Participation in Fine Arts promotes self-esteem, motivation, aesthetic awareness, cultural exposure, creativity, emotional expression, and appreciation for diversity.

  •  Student Outcomes

Eagle's Landing Middle School’s student outcomes information can be found on this dashboard. This information includes:

    • Georgia Student Health Survey Responses
    • Literacy Proficiency Rates

The Georgia Student Health Survey is given to all k-12 students in Georgia in the spring of each school year. It is composed of a variety of questions that help our district better understand the student experience in our schools. The literacy information is calculated as the percentage of students reading on or above grade level determined by scores on the Milestones End-of-grade assessments for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade in English Language Arts. Each of these data components can be viewed for the previous three years. For more information about these measurements, please access the Eagle's Landing Middle School website.
