  •  Highlights

The following school highlights are just a few of the things that make Austin Road Middle School an amazing place to learn and grow! These four items should allow you to see the rigorous learning, diverse experiences, and supportive culture that exists in our school. In Henry County Schools, we believe in giving every student a high quality, world-class education and we believe these highlights display our passion and commitment to do just that.

    ARM picStudent Opportunities
Austin Road Middle School offers various opportunities for students to participate in programs and competitions that increase academic ambition. Some of those programs and competitions include Literacy Days, Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, and the Henry County Water Tower Competition. Each of the events requires students to demonstrate some level of expertise to participate. In addition, the Henry County School District participates in the REACH Program, which currently serves 154 school districts. In this program, 7th-grade students are nominated to participate beginning in the 8th grade. According to the Georgia Student Finance Authority, “The REACH Program is a needs-based mentorship and college scholarship program designed to increase academic tenacity and achievement of Georgia’s middle and high school students and to increase college access and success for Georgia’s low-income and underserved populations”.”.

Austin Road Middle School had the distinct pleasure of celebrating one of our very own 8th-grade students being selected as a REACH Georgia Scholarship recipient in the 2020-2021 school year. With this scholarship, upon graduation from high school, this student will be able to attend a Postsecondary Institution and use the REACH scholarship funds to cover the cost. Great outcomes as such serve to motivate other students to work hard to demonstrate their skills and talents.

    ARM picStudent Outcomes
Austin Road Middle School embraces its mission to develop a nurturing school community that encourages academic success for each student through a rigorous curriculum and extracurricular opportunities. We strive daily to cultivate an environment where every student is afforded the opportunity to apply skills in meaningful ways. This is demonstrated in the positive gains shown in the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), specifically in the area “Closing the Achievement Gap”. Austin Road Middle School saw an increase of 36% in this area, the equivalent of a 15-point gain. This increase has a direct correlation to the progress monitoring and interventions implemented for student success known as the MTSS process.
Teachers at Austin Road Middle School work closely with School Counselors, our Student Support Facilitator, and our Middle School Graduation Coach to provide interventions through the MTSS process, which targets those students in need of additional instructional support. The MTSS process involves a multi-tier support system that increases its interventions from one tier to the next. Once students are identified as needing additional support, interventions are applied to help promote academic growth and achievement as well as support chronic absenteeism, behavior, and social and emotional needs.

    ARM picClimate and Culture
School Culture and Climate has a huge impact on student learning. There are several reflections of the positive environment that exists to enhance student-learning experiences at Austin Road Middle School. Posters, pictures, and decorations placed on classroom walls around the school are used to help motivate and engage students, as well as themed decorations that serve to celebrate holidays and acknowledge the history and culture of families that represent our school. Teachers and staff members at Austin Road Middle School work tirelessly to create school norms that strengthen, improve, and inspire the educational and social environment of the school. Students’ academic achievements, personal achievements, and good behavior are all acknowledged and celebrated. At Austin Road Middle School, we are dedicated to promoting children's well-being and educational success through strong and positive parent, family, and community involvement. Family-friendly events such as Love Your School Night, ARMS Virtual Talent Show, and our Ephemeral Festival are all ways in which we promote family and community involvement.

In a survey administered to parents after our annual event, “Love Your School Night”, a question was asked, “What did you like most about the event”. Listed below are some of the parent responses to the question:

    Interaction with parents and students

"Meeting with some area businesses and seeing the faculty plus the entertainment from the kids."

"The jazz band performance, the baking, the vendors. I liked everything about it."

"Seeing the incredible turnout from scholars, parents and guardians."

    ARM pic Extracurricular
Here at Austin Road Middle School, we believe that involvement in athletics is important when educating the whole child. We believe that it helps to develop the self-discipline, motivation, and leadership skills needed to succeed in all aspects of life. Two of the most prominent characteristics seen in student-athletes here at Austin Road Middle School are learning to work as a team while still building individual character. We offer a wide variety of extracurricular athletic activities, such as Track and Field, Basketball, Football, Volleyball, and Wrestling.  We are also staffed with excellent coaches and staff members who are committed to developing well-rounded student-athletes.
As stated by the Athletic Director at Austin Road Middle School, “While students are involved in our programs, we assist them in learning valuable lessons through sports to grow not only in the game but in life. We strive to be part of a team comprised of family members, educators, and community partners to assist our young people in achieving their goals while growing into healthy, happy, and productive young adults. We work hard, play hard, and have fun while coming together to reach our full potential as a team and compete”! Jaguar PRIDE!

The Georgia Student Health Survey is given to all k-12 students in Georgia in the spring of each school year. It is composed of a variety of questions that help our district better understand the student experience in our schools. The literacy information is calculated as the percentage of students reading on or above grade level determined by scores on the Milestones End-of-grade assessments for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade in English Language Arts. Each of these data components can be viewed for the previous three years. For more information about these measurements, please access the Austin Road Middle School website.
