  •  Highlights

The following school highlights are just a few of the things that make Unity Grove Elementary School an amazing place to learn and grow! These four items should allow you to see the rigorous learning, diverse experiences, and supportive culture that exists in our school. In Henry County Schools, we believe in giving every student a high quality, world-class education and we believe these highlights display our passion and commitment to do just that.

    UGE picStudent Outcomes
Unity Grove Elementary opened its doors in 2002-2003 and has been proudly serving the community for twenty years! Our founding principal, Mrs. Anne Wilson, remains the principal today and is committed to ensuring students are given a high-quality education. It takes intentional effort to see continued growth in student achievement, and we are pleased that our staff and families continue to put in the work to make sure our students are successful. In 2019, which was the last time CCRPI was calculated, our school saw a 14.2 increase in our state CCRPI score, a measure that recognizes student achievement, growth, and closing gaps in student performance among all subgroups. With a CCRPI score of 84.2, UGE was recognized as one of the top five performing elementary schools in Henry County. Also, UGE received a 4 Star rating (95.60) on the School Climate Star Rating, a rating based on stakeholder perception, discipline, a safe learning environment, and attendance. Some of the highlights on the CCRPI School Climate Star Rating were a 96.5% attendance rate, a 92% staff retention rate, as well as an 88% parent approval rating.
Echoing the improvement on the Georgia Milestones Assessment which is reflected in the school’s CCRPI gains, UGE continues to see gains on Henry County School’s local norm-referenced assessment, Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) benchmark testing. Improvement was noted in the percentage of students scoring on or above grade level as well as the percentage of students who met or exceeded their annual growth targets. This strong performance also contributed to an increase in the number of students qualifying for gifted services. In addition, school-wide opportunities such as Literacy Days and Student Exhibition Nights showcase student achievement as well as emphasize creative interest and inquiry-driven abilities. The use of formal and informal assessments to determine student progress towards goals allows teachers and students to identify areas where support is needed and helps teachers design action steps specific to each student. School-wide opportunities such as Literacy Days and Student Exhibition Nights showcase student achievement as well as emphasize creative interest and inquiry-driven abilities.

    UGE picStudent Opportunities
Unity Grove believes in providing our students with opportunities to challenge them academically, socially, and emotionally. Identified students participate in advanced coursework in mathematics through our accelerated math classes in 4th and 5th grade. This puts them on track to enroll in advanced mathematics studies as they transition through secondary schools. Students in 5th grade are eligible for the Jr. BETA Club based on academic achievement and character. Service and leadership are the foundations of the club, and UGE scholars excel in these areas!

In the areas of the fine arts, students are afforded opportunities to participate in clubs and competitions based on their interests and skills. UGE encourages students to participate in several writing competitions including the Literacy Days Competition and the Georgia Young Authors competition. At UGE, we are proud to have a legacy of students who earned first-place at the district-wide competition who went on to also place at the regional level. Similarly, our talented vocalists participate in our Honors Chorus and each year some of those students are selected for participation in the District Honor Chorus. Unity Grove students always shine in the annual District Honor Chorus Program!

    UGE picClimate and Culture
The idea of community and belonging is very important to UGES. In fact, our motto is “Unity Makes Us Great!” We are intentional each day with maintaining a loving and supportive atmosphere for our learners and their families. Just by walking the halls, you will hear positive and affirming dialogue that defines what it means to be a Panther. By utilizing Class Meetings and the Second Step Social Skills curriculum, our staff and students learn to be empathetic and supportive, as evidenced by our PBIS PAWSitive Office Referrals and a rise in restorative justice instead of discipline consequences.

Recognitions such as Teacher of the Year, Educational Support Personnel of the Year, and Students of the Month are only a few ways we emphasize strong character traits. The Unity Grove Student Ambassadors and the PTO provide numerous opportunities each month for families to celebrate their children and give back to their community. The use of Boosterthon funds to help improve our play areas, host events such as Family Fun Nights, and recognize our hardworking staff on Teacher Appreciation Week are only a few ways we work with our stakeholders to make Unity Grove the best elementary school!

    UGE pic Extracurriculars
Our Panthers have so many ways to explore their interests and creativity by participating in one of UGE’s extracurricular activities. Unique to our cluster is the shared community we built with our #InTheGrove connection with Locust Grove High School. Throughout the year, high schoolers share their learning with our students. UGE students have a chance to be part of the FFA Ag program, receive feedback from Economics and AP Lit students, and see the connection between the elementary curriculum, upper level secondary classes, and real-world careers. Hybrid learning has been a blessing, as we discovered many new ways to connect our Panthers with their Wildcat high school buddies and extend the classroom experience. On campus, we offer several after-school clubs such as the Reading Bowl competition team, Junior Beta Club, Talent Show, and an outstanding Drama and Chorus cast. A collaboration with the local minor-league soccer team, the Georgia Revolution Football Club, means that our upper elementary students get a chance to learn soccer from professional coaches and players in our Panther Soccer Club. Other opportunities for beyond the school day experiences for students at UGE are Art Club, Robotics, or Challenge 24, a math speed competition.

AT UGE, we began a PBIS Student Ambassadors program several years ago, which has been a great way to incorporate student voice into our family events, as well as give opportunities for kids to help problem solve and design solutions for daily issues in their classrooms and their building. In addition to serving in an advisory role in UGE, Ambassadors also help coordinate our food and toy drives, several charity events, and many of our staff/student recognitions.

  •  Student Outcomes

Unity Grove Elementary School’s student outcomes information can be found on this dashboard. This information includes:

    • Georgia Student Health Survey Responses
    • Literacy Proficiency Rates

The Georgia Student Health Survey is given to all k-12 students in Georgia in the spring of each school year. It is composed of a variety of questions that help our district better understand the student experience in our schools. The literacy information is calculated as the percentage of students reading on or above grade level determined by scores on the Milestones End-of-Grade assessments for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade in English Language Arts. Each of these data components can be viewed for the previous three years. For more information about these measurements, please access the Unity Grove Elementary School website.
