"Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning." -- Benjamin Franklin.
The administration, faculty, and staff of Smith Barnes Elementary (SBE) are committed to continual professional, academic, social, and emotional growth. In 2019, the most recent calculation by the state, SBE was recognized for achieving a 12.9 point increase in our College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI) score. We are particularly proud of our scores on the progress and the closing gaps indicators, which were 82.7 and 80 respectively.

The progress indicator measures student growth in English Language Arts and Mathematics and English Language Proficiency for our English Language Learners. The closing gaps indicator measures whether all students in subgroups are making academic progress towards standards mastery. Both of these scores demonstrate SBE’s commitment to learning for all students. Undoubtedly, this level of growth was achieved by hard work by students, families, faculty, and staff. The work at Smith Barnes Elementary continues to be guided by and monitored through our continuous improvement plan in order to ensure success for ALL.

    SBE picStudent Opportunities
Here at Smith Barnes Elementary School, we provide an exceptional amount of opportunities for our students. We seek to challenge our students and provide the supports and processes that each student needs to meet their full potential. In addition to the district opportunities for our tigers to compete and collaborate with their peers that were listed previously, at the school level, our students look forward to our multiplication war, the spelling bee, and the poetry recitation. We believe that academic competitions and teams allow our students to learn new things about themselves and to stretch out of their comfort zones to develop into courageous and driven young people.
At Smith Barnes Elementary, success becomes excellence. We are dedicated to ensuring success for all students. Our students are roaring to success to become the best of the best.

    SBE picClimate and Culture
SBE’s community and parent involvement is increasingly recognized as a vital contributor to student academic achievement and provides a bridge connecting the school and community. As stakeholders in the lives of the students and parents, Smith-Barnes continues to actively engage with the parents, students, and community. Each month, Smith Barnes’ Community and Parent Engagement Action Team engages students, parents, and the community in Family Engagement Nights. These evenings have included activities such as Fun with Math, Storytelling, Science in the Kitchen, Music on my Mind, Paint Your Art Out, Puzzles Mazes, and Adventure. As we continue to partner with Global Impact Christian Ministries, First United Methodist Church as well as other local businesses, Smith-Barnes provides meals, public informational sessions, and other services to the parents and community. Some services are backpack kids where we provide students with food, supplies, and goods for non-school days. Additionally, under the leadership of First United Methodist Church, parents have the option of allowing their children to participate in the Good News Club. Parent involvement makes a substantial difference resulting in collaboration with the parent involvement liaison to assess the needs of the parents and students.

Our parents are our true partners as they assist their children with their well-being and academic achievement at home. As we continue to champion the students at Smith Barnes Elementary, having the parents and community on board ensures our maximum growth experience. We look forward to continuing to work with our stakeholders. SBE and our community, we are ONE!

    SBE pic Extracurriculars
Smith Barnes Elementary school is proud to offer the terrific Tigers of SBE extracurricular activities and school-wide initiatives to promote academic and social excellence. The clubs, extracurricular activities, and school-wide events are after school or during extended/modified learning time. Students are encouraged to participate in the clubs and activities of their interest. Our students are able to showcase their interests and talents on club days, where they participate in a club of their choice.

    • Georgia Student Health Survey Responses
    • Literacy Proficiency Rates

The Georgia Student Health Survey is given to all k-12 students in Georgia in the spring of each school year. It is composed of a variety of questions that help our district better understand the student experience in our schools. The literacy information is calculated as the percentage of students reading on or above grade level determined by scores on the Milestones End-of-Grade assessments for 4th and 5th grade in English Language Arts. Each of these data components can be viewed for the previous three years. For more information about these measurements, please access the Smith-Barnes Elementary School website.
