"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I may remember. Involve me and I LEARN!"

Pleasant Grove Elementary is a GADOE State certified STEM school. Teachers and students are engulfed in STEM learning that enhances the academic perspective of students. Project-based learning experiences through STEM allow students to excel as Math and Science Standards are naturally aligned. Recent CCRPI scores support the positive correlation between STEM and student achievement at PGE.

    PGE CCRPI- Overall Score:
    2018- 65.8
    2017 – 71.5

PGE GA Milestone data for Science Scores:
    2019 % Developing to Distinguished for 5th Grade Students: 84.2% (5% Increase)
    2018 % Developing to Distinguished for 5th Grade Students: 79.2% (25.8%Increase)
2017 % Developing to Distinguished for 5th Grade Students: 53.4%

The data above shows the growth in both the CCRPI score for PGE and the GA Milestone Achievement levels from 2017 to 2019. Due to the pandemic and the unprecedented ending of the school year Spring 2020, there was not an administration of the GA Milestones assessment in the State of Georgia during the 2019-2020 school year. There is also no CCRPI data from the 2020-2021 school year. We look forward to displaying our exceptional results this year as data from the 2021-2022 school year becomes available.

    PGE picStudent Opportunities
“The Sky is the limit! PGE students can be anything that they set their minds to!” Students at Pleasant Grove Elementary School (PGE) are exposed to an array of careers through Guest presentations, Virtual and In-Person Field trips, and through a continuum of community partnerships that nurture the STEM culture at PGE. STEM lessons and curriculum provide additional exposure to non-traditional career choices to students. STEM lessons based on real-world scenarios allow students to explore career paths that enhance their learning experience as they use critical thinking skills to solve real-world problems. Students are challenged to realize that the sky's the limit on their abilities and accomplishments.
PGE teachers empower students to use their STEM experiences to see what interests them the most and what they thrive at as they consider STEM-based career options for the future.

    PGE picClimate and Culture
"The culture of a school is formed by an unyielding drive to see ALL students excel in their academic endeavors and beyond!" Pleasant Grove Elementary School (PGE) is committed to empowering students to actively drive and manage their learning to become a community of learners and critical thinkers through STEM. Teachers and students at PGE are immersed in STEM. PGE students have STEM learning that goes beyond the classroom. They have access to the PGE Outdoor Classroom where they can explore the plant and fish life of the PGE pond. The PGE Outdoor Classroom allows students to venture into planting endeavors that allow them to foster the PGE overlying STEM question of “How can Pleasant Grove Elementary create, sustain, and promote a healthy ecosystem to support our community?” Every grade level at PGE has a STEM yearlong cornerstone that is rooted within this overlying PGE STEM focal point. This question is the nucleus of STEM lessons and activities that students engage in daily.

Community partners extend the STEM experience beyond the confines of the school campus. Real-life experiences aligned with Problem Solving Skills and the Engineering Design Process of thinking are shared with PGE students through these integral community partnerships. A correlation between the Engineering Design process at PGE (Identity, Explore, Design, Create, Try/Improve, and Share) and Math Problem Solving skills allows students to make a natural connection between their Science and Math standards and learning initiatives. The PGE STEM Wolf logo is a common icon throughout the school that encapsulates the culture of STEM that exudes throughout the school.

    PGE pic Extracurriculars
“Children want the same things we want- to laugh, to be challenged, to be entertained and delighted!” Students at PGE are involved in an array of extracurricular activities that enhance their learning experience. Sea Perch, Ecology Club, Robotics, Reading Club, and school-wide STEM Challenge Days allow students to learn while engaging in activities that make their learning ventures fun and exciting. Healthy competitions keep students focused on excelling in all that they do.
Students are also engaged in a continuum of projects with Community Partners and businesses. The continuum of work with Community Partners allows teachers and students to enrich the STEM experience at PGE by infusing a natural correlation between what is going on in our local community to the STEM initiatives at the school. The real-world connections and corresponding real-world applications are valid and instinctively occur as a result of the consistent work done with Community Partners who support the STEM vigor at the school. Students are driven by these authentic community and business partnerships as they are engaged in real-world experiences related to STEM. The continual guest presentations, work with students and enhanced learning opportunities shared by the community and business partners add value to the instructional efforts of teachers. The influence of community and business partners takes textbook studies and county learning progressions to a new level of engagement and learning through the lens of the real world.

Pleasant Grove Elementary School’s student outcomes information can be found on this dashboard. This information includes:

    • Georgia Student Health Survey Responses
    • Literacy Proficiency Rates

The Georgia Student Health Survey is given to all k-12 students in Georgia in the spring of each school year. It is composed of a variety of questions that help our district better understand the student experience in our schools. The literacy information is calculated as the percentage of students reading on or above grade level determined by scores on the Milestones End-of-Grade assessments for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade in English Language Arts. Each of these data components can be viewed for the previous three years. For more information about these measurements, please access the Pleasant Grove Elementary School website.
