Mt. Carmel Elementary School’s mission is to “Motivate. Challenge. Empower.” Our Mustang students, staff, and community continue to work diligently to empower our school community to maximize achievement outcomes. The journey of motivating our students, staff, and community to partner with us to create a school climate and culture that fosters continued student growth and a sense of community has been exciting. We are encouraged by our most recent Georgia Milestones performance. Our work to close gaps in Literacy, English/Language Arts, and Mathematics saw our students in all subgroups meet their targets. Our Mustang community is excited to see our CCRPI results reveal steady growth over the last several years, resulting in a current overall score of 78.5. Our School Climate increased to a 4-Star rating, which is thrilling, considering our focus on the implementation of our ROCK (Respect, Ownership, Cooperation, and Keep at it) Behavior Matrix.

Mt. Carmel was honored to be named a HCS Title I Top Five School (TITF) for our 2019 CCRPI growth. We look forward to continuing the essential work of our teachers providing high quality, research-based instructional practices to address the academic and social-emotional needs of all our students. Our goal is cultivating 21st Century learners who are college, career, and life ready. We believe our Mustang Nation ROCKS and we know you will too! “We ‘Rock Out’ because that’s who we are. Mt. Carmel Mustangs, we will all become stars!” ~ Mt. Carmel Student Pledge ~ Student

    MCE picStudent Opportunities
Mt. Carmel believes providing numerous authentic, collaborative, and empowering student experiences cultivates learners within the classroom and beyond and is essential in developing students for future learning and life. We celebrate our third grade Mustang, Taylor Ross, who was awarded first place in the District and Regional Griffin RESA Literacy Days Writing Competition. She also won second place in the District Young Georgia Authors Competition. Our 4th and 5th graders have the opportunity to participate in the Georgia Council on Economic Education Econ Games, a competitive event in which teams apply economics, personal finance, critical thinking, and development and presentation of an idea to solve a real world problem. We are excited that our first team of fifth graders made it to the final competition for their invention, “Cuddle Dog”, an eco-friendly toy to encourage kids during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Congratulations to Olivia Pierce, Journee Pope, Angelique Rose, and Ashlee Vickerson for showcasing their Mustang entrepreneurial spirit!
Mt. Carmel’s Junior Beta Club is composed of 4th and 5th grade students selected who both possess and model high achievement in academics, character, service leadership, and behavior. Beta Club’s largest project is the annual schoolwide “Canned Food Drive”. All proceeds are donated to our Liberty Hill Baptist Community Food Pantry. The current record for items collected is 2,384. We are extremely proud of our Jr. Beta Club, which has been awarded the following honors: 2016-17 National Beta School of Distinction and National Beta School of Merit for 2018, 2019, and 2020.

    MCE picClimate and Culture
Mt. Carmel believes a positive school climate and culture is essential for providing our students, staff, and community a safe, diverse, supportive, encouraging, inviting, and academically challenging environment in which to learn and grow. Our Mt. Carmel School and Student Councils are a means of soliciting involvement and support from our parents, students, and greater school community. We believe creating a school and work environment in which all students and staff feel valued, appreciated, and celebrated is vital. Our “MCE Student Mustang of the Month” and MCE “Rock Staff Member of the Month” recognitions celebrate one of our ROCK (Respect, Ownership, Cooperation, and Keep at it) behaviors. Pictures of students and staff are posted for our school community to celebrate.

Our annual selection and celebration of Teacher of the Year (TOTY) and Educational Support Person of the Year (ESPY) is one of our most anticipated celebrations. We recognize and celebrate, as a family, the efforts of a deserving teacher and staff member who go above and beyond to model our school and district priorities for the Mt. Carmel community. Our annual “Back to School Bash” in August is a time for students, staff, and family to gather to celebrate Mt. Carmel Mustang family and the beginning of the new year together. There is always a superhero or two who makes an appearance! Our “Fall Festival” and “Black History Month Celebrations” are school-wide events for our school staff, students, and community to gather. “Mt. Carmel is like a family.” ~ Parents & Teachers

    MCE pic Extracurriculars
Our Mustangs have opportunities to engage in numerous extracurricular activities. We believe extending our students’ learning beyond the classroom allows students to explore their interests, develop leadership skills, and grow socially and emotionally. B.L.A.S.T. (Building Leaders As Students Transform) and G.R.A.C.E. (Girls Ready to Advance, Create, and Excel) are our mentoring clubs for 3rd-5th grade boys and girls. We believe in preparing strong leaders for the future!

Students also have opportunities to develop art, voice, music, and drama through our Mt. Carmel Fine Arts Department, Mustang Chorus, and Drama Department.
Our Chorus has performed for the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Hawks. Our Mustangs have had opportunities to perform at Walt Disney World, The Governor’s Mansion, and several local Chick-Fil-A restaurants. The drama team has also presented the musicals Annie Jr. and Seussical Jr. for our school and the local community.
We also celebrated our 4th and 5th grade Reading Bowl winners and our third-grade student, Christian Sims, who has personally spearheaded a Mt. Carmel school recycling project to help our Mustang Community become aware of reducing pollution and keeping the environment clean! We are also looking forward to growing our Robotics Club and are eager to add new clubs to further engage our diverse student population and their interests. “Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you!” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Mt. Carmel Elementary School’s student outcomes information can be found on this dashboard. This information includes:

    • Georgia Student Health Survey Responses
    • Literacy Proficiency Rates

The Georgia Student Health Survey is given to all k-12 students in Georgia in the spring of each school year. It is composed of a variety of questions that help our district better understand the student experience in our schools. The literacy information is calculated as the percentage of students reading on or above grade level determined by scores on the Milestones End-of-Grade assessments for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade in English Language Arts. Each of these data components can be viewed for the previous three years. For more information about these measurements, please access the Mt.Carmel Elementary School website.
