  •  Highlights

The following school highlights are just a few of the things that make Austin Road Elementary School an amazing place to learn and grow! These four items should allow you to see the rigorous learning, diverse experiences, and supportive culture that exists in our school. In Henry County Schools, we believe in giving every student a high quality, world-class education and we believe these highlights display our passion and commitment to do just that.

    ARE picStudent Outcomes
Our most recent MAP assessment data shows 56% of students in 1st - 5th grade met their reading projected score and 59% met their projected math score. Overall, total MAP growth for grades 1st-5th shows 87% of the students showed growth in reading and 90% of the students showed growth in Math. We contribute the growth of our students to analyzing data, professional learning community (PLC) meetings, instructional focus, afterschool tutoring opportunities, instructional walks, targeting of specific skills, adjusting skill-based assessments, targeting vocabulary and phonics during guided reading instruction, and data tracking followed by goal-setting for math. We have continued to use evidence-based strategies and a passion for student learning to continue our progress.

According to our principal, Lois Barney, “we are creating a culture of college and career readiness!”

    ARE picStudent Opportunities
Here at Austin Road Elementary, we believe in our mission of reaching excellence through: Value, Ownership, Innovation, Collaboration, and Engagement. We provide a variety of academic opportunities for our students including exceptional student education services, a robust early intervention program, and small group gifted services. Teachers meet weekly in collaborative teams to disaggregate student data in order to provide opportunities for acceleration and remediation in a targeted small group setting.

We also offer accelerated math for our 4th and 5th grade students to challenge their skills and prepare them for advanced math courses at the middle and high school level. We believe that all children are unique and learn at different rates and in different ways.

    ARE picClimate and Culture
At Austin Road Elementary, we care about our staff, our students, and our community. Our students participate in gratitude walks to focus on the things they are thankful for and we love to celebrate with our students and staff all throughout the year. You can find our teachers waiting with a smile to greet their students each day as they enter the classroom. Our amazing counselor, Mrs. Wright, helps our Austin Road Jaguars stay positive and learn to work together to have safe days filled with learning for all of our students.

We are thankful to have the chance to work with such a wonderful community and the best students and staff in Henry County!

    ARE picExtracurriculars
The Austin Road Jaguars excel in a variety of ways through our clubs and programs. We offer a wide range of extracurricular activities that encourage growth in our students and allow them to build relationships with their peers while working on something they are passionate about. Our Junior Beta club, open to 5th-grade students with a B average or above, allows us to challenge our students to serve their peers and their community with pride. Our students can participate in the Helen Ruffin Reading bowl where they read 5 to 10 books and compete with other schools in the county in a competition of comprehension and understanding.

Our Jaguars also have the opportunity to be a part of our drama club, cheer and dance team, ARE ware news team, flag football, and poetry recitation just to name a few. We love watching our students thrive and learn to collaborate with each other in the many clubs and programs that we offer here at Austin Road!

Austin Road Elementary School’s student outcomes information can be found on this dashboard. This information includes:

    • Georgia Student Health Survey Responses
    • Literacy Proficiency Rates

The Georgia Student Health Survey is given to all k-12 students in Georgia in the spring of each school year. It is composed of a variety of questions that help our district better understand the student experience in our schools. The literacy information is calculated as the percentage of students reading on or above grade level determined by scores on the Milestones End-of-Grade assessments for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade in English Language Arts. Each of these data components can be viewed for the previous three years. For more information about these measurements, please access the Austin Road Elementary School website.
