Welcome to Mrs. Armstrong’s Fifth Grade Class!

 

 

Here is a little information about Mrs. Armstrong

I was born and raised in NYC.  I am married, have two daughters, a son, and a grandson. This is teaching year number 25 for me. I started teaching for the NYC Department of Education in 2000. There, I taught for 6 years. Then, I moved to Georgia in 2006.  I’ve worked for Clayton County Public Schools for two years and now I teach in the Henry County Public School System. I am certified to teach General and Gifted Education. I also earned my master’s degree in Literacy Education.

 

 Curriculum & Instruction

  • All 5th graders are expected to master the Georgia Standards of Excellence.
  • You can find all of Henry County Schools’ 5th grade standards for Teaching and Learning HCS webpage.   
  • Our primary focus in the classroom will be given to you weekly by your 5th grader’s teacher along with other parent resources and classroom information.

Attendance

  • Daily attendance is strongly encouraged for your 5th grader to stay on track.
  • Remember to send in a written or doctor’s note to excuse an absence.
  • When absent, please help your 5th grader catch up on missed lessons and/or assignments.  We will send everything home with your 5th grader's  when they return.

Grades

  • Download the Infinite Campus app!  It will give you up-to-date grades, averages, and missing assignments.  All assignments have deadlines.  This is the best way to help your 5th grader keep track of graded work.
  • Grades are posted weekly.
  • Reengagement opportunities are provided at school within two weeks of posted grades.

Homework

  • To be prepared for class, Learners are expected to complete math practice work for homework daily.
  • Read at least 20 minutes daily.
  • Read Theory 
  • Learners will use their homework time to finish any incomplete classwork 
  • Learners will be given study guides to prepare for Science, Social Studies, and Math Unit assessments. 

 Behavior

  • RSE’s ROCK Behavior expectations will be in place at all times.
  • The students and their classroom teacher will work together to define their own classroom rules, rewards, and consequences.  They will be shared with you afterward.
  • Redirections will be recorded on students’ behavior card (Code of Cooperation), which will be sent home every Friday.  This behavior card will also be used for RSE’s Rock Day Celebrations.
