Membership in local chapters is an honor bestowed on a student. Selection for membership is by a Faculty Advisory Council and is based both on academic accomplishment in English and English-related courses, as well as on overall academic accomplishment.
There are THREE parts to your application. Please make sure that you follow all instructions and compile the necessary documents into this Google Form.
PART 1: TRANSCRIPT (a PDF of the unofficial transcript from IC is fine)
Please provide your current transcript from high school, showing at least an unweighted, cumulative 85 average and an unweighted, cumulative 90 or higher average in any of your English courses. Students should also have completed at least 2 years of Dual Enrollment, AP, or honors-level English before applying. Due to these criteria, inductees will likely be juniors or seniors.PART 2: TEACHER RECOMMENDATION
Please provide us with the names of THREE teachers to complete teacher recommendations. One MUST be from a former or current high school ENGLISH teacher (or Dual Enrollment professor) and the other two recommendations MUST be from former or current ACADEMIC teachers (English, math, science, social studies). All teachers should be able to speak about your scholarly and academic work ethic. *I will send them an e-mail recommendation, but please inform them that you have submitted their name. You may also want to remind them about the recommendation prior to the application deadline. If you wish, you may contact Mrs. Vessell to see which teachers have submitted a recommendation.
PART 3: WRITTEN REQUIREMENT
Answer the following questions. A paragraph response is fine. Please keep in mind that this is an application to the National English Honor Society, so proofread your paragraphs before submitting your responses.
1. Why do you want to be a member of NEHS? What talents will you bring to this chapter? And how do you demonstrate high standards in your English and English-related course(s)?
2. What ideas for school-related and community-related outreach do you have for advancing the study of language and literature? What are some things you’d like to see NEHS do for you, the school, and the community?
****All parts of your application are due by Thursday, September 9, 2022.****NOTE: Failure to turn in all parts of your application can result in forfeiting your chances of being in NEHS for this semester. Also, a completed application does not ensure membership in NEHS. Criteria must be met and the Faculty Advisory Council must approve.
*NEW MEMBERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN SEPTEMBER, AFTER FALL BREAK.
