Sight words, often also called high-frequency sight words, are commonly used words that young children are encouraged to memorize as a whole by sight so that they can automatically recognize these words in print without having to use any strategies to decode.
Start with the Pre-Primer list and work your way up!
Climb the Stairs: Put a word on each step. Say the word as you climb the stairs (lay words on the floor if there are no stairs)
Hide and go seek: Hide the words around the house. Find the words one at a time and tell what the word is
Concentration: Use two sets of word cards to play concentration. Choose several pairs of matching words and spread them out face down. As you turn over each word, you must read it. If you find a match, keep the cards, if not, turn them back over.
Meal Time Word Wall: Make a word wall with a large piece of butcher paper. Start with two words, adding a new one daily. Have your child read the whole list every mealtime. If she has trouble with the list, do not add more words until she can read them without trouble.
