I am so happy to serve you and your families during this amazing 2023 -2024 school year.
I have been teaching at McDonough High School since its inaugural year of 2019 and have been a Henry County Math Educator since 2015.

BACKGROUND & PHILOSOPHY:
I graduated from Georgia Southern University with a B.S. in Mathematics with Civil engineering emphasis, M.A. in Teaching Applied Mathematics with a (phd track) professor's badge of 15 additional hrs. of mathematics, and am currently earning my (PhD) Doctorate in Teaching and Learning Interdisciplinary Mathematics at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. My teaching philosphy is an intersection of the following theories:
1) A Sense of Community - a feeling that members have of belonging, a feeling that members matter to one another and to the group, and a shared faith that members' needs will be met through commitment to be together.
2) Critical Mathematics - students are active co-creators of classrooms “where students of varied backgrounds and abilities work with expert teachers, learning important mathematical ideas with understanding, in environments that are equitable, challenging, supportive, and technologically equipped for the twenty-first century”
3) Semiotics of Mathematics: the study of signs, symbols, sign systems and their structure, meaning and use in mathematics and mathematics education.
MY WHY:
Building a passion for mathematics within our scholars' real world experiences is my "why". In doing so, I hope to support students in getting to know themselves as active mathematicians in their own lives by seeing their own interests and passions in the Geometry contents. In doing so, the goal is for them to advocate for themselves and their peers in seeing their identities and passions in mathematics as well, which will prepare them to be informed and active citizens within their present, future, and community. I look forward to connecting with your teen and their village support system in whatever way is needed to reach and exceed their goals.
PERSONAL INTERSTS:
When I'm not teaching and learning mathematics, I love spending time with family, triathlon training and racing, talking and playing sports, cooking, hiking, traveling, and mentoring young people within my community.
