Jamal Muhammad
Mr. Muhammad graduated from Stone Mountain High School and attended Ohio State University and Bethune-Cookman College. He has been a teacher for 13 years. He is married and has three kids. He enjoys playing tennis, hitting the heavy bag, playing Dominos, and relaxing on the patio.
My philosophy on teaching, specifically, special education, is that we have to overcome obstacles in teaching in order for students to overcome obstacles in learning.
What Colleagues Say about the MMS Teacher of the Year
- It's amazing to see how far the students in his class have come since the beginning of the school year. Students who are considered nonverbal are now actively being able to express themselves and function around the general population.
- Mr. Muhammad works with the AC Autism students. Although his job may be hard at times, you can always see around the school with a smile on his face giving someone words of encouragement.
- Since he has been in the ESE department for awhile, he is always helping the new teachers and paras if needed.
