During a discussion of Grannie and Grandpa in Cold Sassy Tree,
compare and contrast the characters to the students' own grandparents.
In small groups the students compare their own lives to the lives of their
grandparents followed by a class discussion of their findings.

Students bring in pictures of their ancestors to share with the class.
3.
Students select an older person to interview. In class they brainstorm
to determine questions to ask in the interview. After interviews
are conducted and information has been written up, the students bring in
their essays to share in small groups for peer evaluation. The revised
paper is then presented to the class as an oral presentation.
