Creating a Nation:Seeds of Democracy |
ABOUT THE GRANT Creating a Nation: Seeds of Democracy is a three-year collaboration among three metro-Atlanta school systems, Henry, Cobb, and Fayette. The grant focuses on the early colonial period of America, from 1607-1763. Three colonies will be studied in depth, Virginia, Massachusetts, and Georgia. Partners in the grant include: Georgia Archives, the National Archives-SE Region, the Georgia Humanities Council, the Atlanta History Center, and the Massie Heritage Interpretation Center of Savannah. The goals of the program are (1) increased historical knowledge of the period from 1607 to 1776, including how the events, people, and core historical documents led to our civic ideals and principles; (2) improved pedagogy and collegiality, including instructional strategies, research, writing, and the use of technology; (3) increased use of non-fiction materials to strength understanding of history; and (4) improved student achievement through increased knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of traditional American History. Two groups will be selected for the grant: Group A: 2006-2007 and Group B: 2007-2008. |
