Parents in Henry County
now have another resource for dealing with life’s challenges.
Sandwiched between the education center for Henry County Schools and
the Henry County Adult Education Center on Lee Street in
Stockbridge, the new Family Resource Center has a variety of
materials, programs, classes and workshops designed to meet the
needs of parents facing familiar life issues.
"All families need
various levels of support at some time. Our goal is to help families
focus on their strengths, build confidence, and improve family
communication," says Anna Arnold, the center’s coordinator.
Center staff will help parents become more involved with their
children’s learning by providing assistance with math and reading
activities that reflect the family’s culture and heritage.
Classes and workshops
will be available on topics such as coping with stress, improving
communication, dealing with peer pressure, preventing bullying and
helping children enjoy doing homework. Parents can also develop
valuable support networks with other families facing similar
challenges.
At the Family Resource
Center, you can also find assistance in the following areas:
• parent education
• communication skills
• time management
• tutoring
• computer training
• volunteer opportunities
• family crisis management
• Parents as Partners in Education
• community outreach
A comfortable homelike
setting will set parents at ease in the community room for workshops
and classes. A conference room is available for small group meetings
and an office is available for private conferences. A children’s
center is furnished with tables and chairs, books, puzzles, games
and activities.
The Family Resource
Center is open Tuesdays from 1- 5:00 p.m. and Wednesdays
from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. You
may call for night appointments. Classes and workshops will be
advertised in local papers and through your child’s school, but a
parent can come to the center anytime it is open for assistance.
Parents can even make
use of the resource center during the summer months. The summer
workshop schedule will be available on request or on-line at
www.henry.k12.ga.us.
