arcbul2d.gif (89 bytes)  The invocation was presented by five East Lake Elementary students, Caroline Rutledge, Abbey Benton, Amie Holloway, Danielle Lyons, and Taylor Fleming.

arcbul2d.gif (89 bytes)  A certificate of recognition was presented to Stockbridge High School senior Michael Stewart, who was named a National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist.

arcbul2d.gif (89 bytes)  The Board also presented a certificate of recognition to Thomas Mittenzwei, an Eagle’s Landing High School senior, who achieved a perfect 1600 score on the SAT and was named a National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist

arcbul2d.gif (89 bytes) The Board presented certificates to the coaching staff and team members of the Metro Middle School Athletic League Champion Eagle’s Landing Middle School Golden Eagles.

arcbul2d.gif (89 bytes) At the Thursday study session, Mr. Bart Royston addressed the Board concerning the balanced calendar proposal, and Mr. Daniel Hocking addressed the Board concerning alternative methods of construction.

arcbul2d.gif (89 bytes)  The Board voted to approve five additional assigned bus driver positions and 10 unassigned positions. At the Thursday study session, Transportation Director Beverly Skipper reported that a number of bus driver candidates have completed the required training and testing are ready to be hired.

arcbul2d.gif (89 bytes) Personnel recommendations were approved, including the retirement next spring of Special Education Director, Dr. Joan Jordan, and Eagle's Landing High School Principal Paul O'Brien.

arcbul2d.gif (89 bytes) The Board set the time and place of its regular monthly meetings for 2001. The regular meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month. The study sessions will be held at 5 p.m. on the first Monday of each month with some variations. Exceptions are in April, when the study session will be held two weeks prior to the regular meeting, and in July and August when the study session will be held at 5 p.m. on the same day as the regular monthly meeting. Also, because of the Labor Day Holiday, the study session preceding the September meeting will be held on August 27.

arcbul2d.gif (89 bytes)  The Board approved job descriptions for Coordinator of Student Services, School Nurse-Registered, and School Nurse-Licensed.

arcbul2d.gif (89 bytes)  Revised personnel allocation guidelines were approved by the Board.

arcbul2d.gif (89 bytes)  Board members also voted on requests to cross attendance lines from several parents.

arcbul2d.gif (89 bytes)   The Board approved requests for fund raising projects, field trips, and community use of facilities.

arcbul2d.gif (89 bytes)   During the study session, Board members reviewed ongoing initiatives including the balanced calendar and extended day scheduling. Dr. Jack Parish presented a report on the meetings held to inform the community about the balanced calendar study. Dr. Parish also shared information collected from balanced calendar feedback forms to date.

arcbul2d.gif (89 bytes)  Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, Dr. Preston Malcom, presented a report on personnel allocation guidelines, which have been revised to reflect requirements in the Education Reform Act. 

arcbul2d.gif (89 bytes)   Also during the study session, Dr. Phyllis Hadden presented information on a project under way to study and upgrade the student data management system currently in use by the school system. A committee has been researching a number of options for improvement.

Information about   Board of Education members
The five member Henry County Board of Education is the governing body of the Henry County School System. Members are elected to staggered, four-year terms. Board meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of the month at the Board office at 396 Tomlinson Street in McDonough. Board study sessions, which begin at 5 p.m., are held on Thursdays before the Monday meetings. All meetings are open to the public, and the public is invited to attend.  For information, please call 770-957-6601.
